LOVE
JAPAN WHEN I AM AWAY : 10
x 10 cm - 48 pages - full colours - Limited Edition

I have lived in Sydney for seven years. About three weeks ago I visited
my family in Japan, the first time for a few years. Most of the photos
were taken then. They were not taken for publications, but I decided
to put together my first photo book as soon as I saw the prints. These
photos explain what I really feel and want.
This visit to Japan got me thinking about many things. One thing is,
that life goes on and everything changes itself. This always makes
me want to take photos.Things exist in ordinary life, like sunshine
from the window, the shadow of a car, a corner of the station. We
easily pass over these moments. I take photos to remember, but they
are more than remembering.
Am I becoming Australian ? No, I feel more like I'm split between
Japanese and Australian. Am I like Sydney ? Who am I ? These photos
were taken from the perspective of a Japanese person residing in Sydney,
I concluded.
I hope you understand what I'm trying to say. Please enjoy this, and
cherish your cultural background.
Jun Tagami Sydney 2002.
